Fibreglass mesh support for marble slabs

Some natural marble slabs receive resin-bonded fibreglass mesh on the back. In a specified processing system, this backing helps reinforce the slab during handling and stone work.

How the backing works

Reinforcement for handling and processing.

Where the stone and process call for it, resin bonds a fibreglass mesh to the rear face of a natural marble slab. The mesh-backed system can help hold the slab together through handling and processing. Resin and mesh products are specified for natural-stone work, including epoxy systems.

Choose a compatible system

Follow the slab processor’s specification.

Stone type, mesh, resin or epoxy, surface condition and processing method all affect compatibility. Use the resin and mesh system selected by the slab manufacturer or processor, and follow its current technical instructions.

Support remains essential

Mesh backing does not support the slab by itself.

Use properly designed frames and supports during storage, transport and fabrication. The installed slab still needs suitable substrate, fixing and full installation support for its size, layout and intended use.
